Suncast 100 Foot Capacity Garden Hose Reel Hideaway with Hose Guide Taupe PHT100 – Reviews
I have used several different types and brands of hose reel devices over the years and many didn’t work worth a hoot. I now have two of the Suncast Hose Reel Hideaway’s with hose guides and they are the best. On occassion the hose guide will get hung up but overall it works great and I would recommend it!

Back in the early 90′s I owned this same exact hose reel minus the hose guide cheater part. Like everyone here I discovered the two tabs that held the garden hose connector onto the exterior of the reel had failed after only a few weeks of use.
My solution was to put a generous amount of clear shower silicon around the flange that mates up against the reel box. Then I ran about three 3/4″ drywall screws, 1/2″ might do, around the flange into the reel box itself. With no hose in the reel you can see where to put the screws so you avoid piercing anything and where they won’t interfere with the reels use.
After what was at most a 15 minute fix, I had it last for almost 15 years on the southern exposure side of the house in the full sun. The main cause of death was the exterior flange finally cracked apart from that many years of exposure.
The only pros being that it kept the same hose in it protected for all that time and I found the size of it to be small and unobtrusive.
Otherwise the con’s are heinous and numerous, the main one being it will most likely break right after a few uses and need fixing or returning. Also the pro of it being small is the second worst con as the standard rolling position for this reel is foot in the stirrup, bent over, with your butt in the air. Then using your left hand to guide the house back in forth into the box you’ll be using the right to crank like crazy. The crank handle is way too short to have much leverage against the resistance of not only the house but the shoddy reel action. So count on be lightheaded and sore armed after reeling in a whole 100′ in that position. And that’s after walking the sprayer back to the box so the sprayer doesn’t snag as you reel and letting you only reel against, at most, 50′ hose length.
And when you want to use it you just can’t grab the sprayer and just go trotting off across the yard after you turn it on. You’ll just come up short every time as it unreels just as smooth as it reels, which isn’t very smooth at all. Instead you’ll find yourself bent over in the reel position playing out the amount of hose you think you’re gonna need. That’s after checking the box for wasps as it’s their perfect home and will stay occupied most the summer in most cases.
My advice is find something in the store you can work the action of and check construction of before you buy. This is nothing more than a cheap busted direct from china 20+ year old design with the same problems now as it had then. It seems if people keep buying junk they’ll continue making it.

Connecting a hose to the cheap plastic attachment inside is hit or miss. Took me ten tries. Hooked up 100′ of hose and tried winding it in. The thing flopped all over the place. You basically have to sit on it and hope it doesn’t crack and crank the cheap handle. My wife also pointed out that it will become a haven for spiders. I’m taking it back. I’ve had better luck with the free standing taller units with a wide base and a place to put your foot when you’re reeling. Boooo
