This hose holder is a giant Galapagos Tortoise that is called Darwin after Charles Darwin that studied the Galapago tortoises for his theory of evolution. These tortoises are on the endangered species list and are incredible creatures. They are herbivores and can live to be over 150 years old and weigh more than 500 lbs. I love what this hose holder represents and the story behind it. I use my tortoise as a geo-cache called The Legend of Galapagos in Mesa AZ to raise awareness of a special tortoise called Lonesome George. The real lonesome George is the last of the Pinta Island species in Ecuador.Several species are already extinct due to habitat loss.

I had a hose cover turtle in VA and we left it behind for a cover to a sewer cleanout. I was looking for a reasonably priced turtle hose cover to replace it and was happy that Amazon had one.

“Darwin” is an attractive alternative to the common hose holders. He looks great in any garden, and keeps my garden hose from laying in the mulch. Only thing I would have liked was a roller, but otherwise, looks good and very functional. Good buy for any homeowner
